The Great Cheese War.

I love my roommate. I really do, but this week... its been an endless war between us.

The topic: American Cheese

The debate: White or Yellow?

Why: Because, Janzow decide to serve grilled cheese with yellow cheese.

My Option: White. My mom warned me about the midwest and their views on cheese. But like always, I didn't believe her. But she was right. Being in college, I have discovered very quickly that midwesterns prefer Orange American cheese. This is a new concept to me. Growing up, its always been white. When you go to the deli and ask for a pound of American cheese, you get a pound of white cheese. American cheese is suppose to be white. It taste better white. Apart from being white, it needs to be from a deli. I never knew so many people in my life before who prefer individual wrapped, pre-sliced cheese. It taste like plastic.

Bethany's Option: Yellow. To begin, it is not Orange, its yellow. She thinks white cheese is weird and rare. When she goes to a deli and ask for American cheese, she gets orange cheese. Except, she doesn't buy her cheese at the deli. But that is besides the point. She's lived in Nebraska her whole life. And so, she believes that yellow American cheese taste better.

The facebook status: "I need an official poll. When you go to the store and buy American cheese, is it White or is it Orange-Yellow"

The facts: American cheese was originally white. But over time, people wanted something different. And so cheese markers mixed cheddar in. Which was the beginning of Orange Yellow American cheese.

It is also important to note here, that Nebraska is not in fact in the midwest.. but is technically consider to be part of the great plains. Thanks Tasha!

The conclusion: All American Cheese is processed. Therefore, its all fake. No matter the color, it's made up of different cheeses. So its not even original. I would go as far as to say, that it's not even its own cheese. No wonder its American.

I know. I know, thats not a real conclusion. But we couldn't let the endless fighting go on forever. We do, after all, have to live with each other.

Who would of thought, a grilled cheese could cause so much drama.
