Let's get creative!

Today, was our second day workshopping with the local mission. In order to prepare for our "production" of Noah's Ark on Friday, we had the children make puppets and mask to use for the play today!

We decided that we wanted to the children to be creative. So we started them off with a paper plate, crayons, markers, and colored paper. As time went on students began to get more ideas for their puppets. As they came up with ideas, we pulled out more and more art supplies.

It didn't take long for me to realize, that most of these children, don't usually get the opportunity to do these kind of art projects. Simply, because they can't afford the supplies.

Growing up, I used to LOVE to do art projects. It was one of my favorite "hobbies". As a teacher to be, I LOVE doing art projects with children and students of all ages! It's a great way to learn to express yourself and be creative. It's a way to make the impossible, possible.

Sadly, for these children, its not an every day occurrence. Painting and glueing isn't something that can be done all the time. And so, when they get the chance to be creative, they take full advantage of it!

I was shocked by the creative and thought that went into the puppets and animals that the children made today! I could never be that creative! So I wondered on the way home: Do we take advantage of our ability to be creative when ever we want?
